Vitesse has won five Eredivisie matches in a row for the first time since February 2015 (then six under Peter Bosz). Thomas Letsch’s team was too strong for FC Emmen on Sunday afternoon, which played 65 minutes against ten men: 3-1. Riechedly Bazoer received a red card halfway through the first half. The victory puts Vitesse on a level with Ajax: 21 points from eight matches. For FC Emmen it was already the third loss in a row: Dick Lukkien’s team is still waiting for the first victory of the season.

Vitesse had no child in the first half of FC Emmen, which made a mediocre impression from a defensive point of view and even failed to keep the goal clean against ten men. Letsch’s team already took the lead after nine minutes when goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald made a clumsy foul on Armando Broja and Jeroen Manschot pointed to the spot. Oussama Tannane made no mistake from eleven meters: 1-0.

Tannane was also the one who helped Vitesse to a double lead. The attacker went in from the right and placed the ball nicely in the left corner behind Wiedwald: 2-0. A few minutes later, however, the home team suffered a downer. Manschot handed Bazoer yellow for a foul on Sergio Peña, but after interference from the VAR, he drew a red card. Despite the substitution situation, Vitesse was still 3-0 before half-time: after a good pass from Thomas Bruns, Loïs Openda scored.

Simon Tibbling was replaced at half time by Luciano Carty and the youngster made sure that there was more threat from FC Emmen. Dick Lukkien’s team was allowed to have more of the ball from Vitesse in the second half and struck after 58 minutes. After a good action from Carty on the left, Michael de Leeuw scored 3-1 in the goal mouth. Vitesse got away very well ten minutes later. De Leeuw extended a ball behind the standing leg and Carty had the ball in the goal mouth before tapping it in. The substitute did not hit the ball well and saw his bet disappear to the left of the goal.

In the last twenty minutes, the forces flowed away from Vitesse. The Arnhemmers hardly came to attacks anymore. FC Emmen was looking for a connection goal, but the low flyer was not capable of more than a shot from Peña in GelreDome. Remko Pasveer turned the bet stylishly. Vitesse will play a game with FC Groningen after the international period, while FC Emmen will visit AZ.
