Royal Antwerp took the much-needed three points in the Jupiler Pro League on Wednesday evening. Mark van Bommel’s team had no problem with KV Oostende and, partly thanks to a goal from Vincent Janssen, on a pass from Calvin Stengs, led to 0-3. Antwerp remains in third place, four points behind Royal Sint-Gilles.

In addition to Janssen and Stengs, another Dutchman was at the kick-off at Antwerp with Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. Ekkelenkamp was substituted in the final minutes for Viktor Fischer, who, like him, has an Ajax past. Antwerp had to do without the support of the supporters, who stayed home because of the 6.30 pm start time. “Always and massively ready when it comes to normal hours”, was written on a banner in the otherwise empty section.

Antwerp lost three days back to direct competitor Union (2-0) and traveled to Ostend with feelings of revenge. There the difference was made very quickly. In the eleventh minute, Michel-Ange gave Balikwisha low to fellow wing striker Arbnor Muja, who was able to tap in: 0-1. Ten minutes later, Janssen already made it 0-2. The striker received the ball sixteen meters from the goal of Stengs, who himself could not find room for a shot by cutting and turning. Janssen suddenly curled the ball into the far corner with his lesser right.

Ostend should have brought back the tension in the 71st minute, but Nick Bätzner hit the post with a penalty. Antwerp had already missed some great opportunities when it still produced its third goal two minutes before the end. Jelle Bataille dribbled away over the right and put back, after which Bruny Nsimba had plenty of room to shoot in dry: 0-3.
