Real Madrid has scrapped any championship premiums and the premiums for any Champions League winnings for the second consecutive season, reports Marca. According to the Saturday edition of the Spanish sports newspaper, this is ‘the logical consequence’ of the corona pandemic and the absence of fans in the stadium, even if there was due to the thorough renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu and the limited capacity of the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano ( six thousand seats) in any case, taking less income into account.

The Real Madrid board and the players group have also been discussing a salary cut of ten percent for weeks, just like last season. A general agreement is still pending, although some players have already agreed. This applies to Martin Ödegaard and Luka Jovic, who agreed at the time of their rental to Arsenal and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively, as well as Luka Modric. The latter recently signed a new contract with the Royal.

Real Madrid assumed a seasonal turnover of approximately nine hundred million euros, but it is expected that it will be six hundred million euros. The success in the sports field is a great windfall for the Spanish top club. Reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League has earned Real Madrid nearly a hundred million euros and qualifying for the final battle in Istanbul would even mean 115 million euros in revenue.

Real Madrid lost tens of millions in revenue due to the renovation of Santiago Bernabéu and the absence of fans in the stands. Ticket sales for the five home games in the Champions League tournament, including Chelsea’s visit next Tuesday, would have meant a total of € 40 million in revenue. In Spain it is assumed that the stadiums will also be empty in the first months of the new season or that only a limited number of spectators will be allowed to sit in the stands.

Real Madrid is currently no longer in control of the renewal of the league title. City rivals Atlético Madrid have three points more, while Barcelona has two points and one game less than Zinedine Zidane’s team. Real Madrid’s hopes are set for a good result, depending on the state of play in LaLiga, in the top match between Barcelona and Atlético on May 8 at the Camp Nou.
