Ajax will enjoy Benjamin Tahirovic a lot, Haris Medunjanin expects. The team from Amsterdam reached an agreement with AS Roma on Sunday about the twenty-year-old midfielder. Ajax reportedly paid the Romans a transfer fee of eight million euros. Medunjanin expects Tahirovic to be worth this amount in the end and calls his compatriot a ‘great talent’.

Tahirovic has already been praised by AS Roma coach José Mourinho in the past, who stated that the young midfielder is a footballer with two faces. “The Swedish Tahirovic is a relaxed and calm footballer. But if his Bosnian character gets the upper hand, then Tahirovic is one warrior with incredible potential,” said Mourinho. Medunjanin, the Bosnian who had successful years at AZ and played for PEC Zwolle last season, is sure that Ajax will mainly see the calm and relaxed version of Tahirovic.

“Ajax is always on the ball,” says the currently clubless Medunjanin The Telegraph. “That is also Tahirovic’s great strength. He is technically very well versed, like most Bosnian football players.” The now 38-year-old Medunjanin himself played sixty times for Bosnia. He expects star players such as Edin Dzeko (37) and Miralem Pjanic (33) to retire soon. To Tahirovic then the difficult task of filling this gap. “Tahirovic is one of the players who will form the backbone of the national team in the future. In the national team he is the successor to Pjanic.”

According to Medunjanin, Tahirovic is a very different type of footballer than Edson Álvarez. “Perhaps you can best compare him to Kenneth Taylor. Tahirovic is a beautiful footballer, who likes to get the ball and covers great distances as a midfielder. It is a real connection player. The pressure at Ajax will be great. Tahirovic has played few matches at the top level. Ajax must become champion. The question is whether he can handle that pressure. I think so, it is really a great talent.”
