Joey Veerman will compete with PSV against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. interviewed, among others, the best friend of the Dutch international, who is full of praise for him.

His friend and amateur footballer Stef Schokker wants to say that it is a good thing that Veerman has so much football talent. “Joey is lucky that he has two good feet. When he did a one-week internship in construction, he went home crying. Joey was doing so badly that he had to puke,” says Schokker, laughing. “We don't know what he should have become other than a footballer.”

“Other than that, Joey has never actually worked an hour. He worked a few more Saturdays in 'the fish', but he thought the days were too long. There is always something, Joey is a good complainer.”

According to Schokker, Veerman has become more passionate about the sport in recent years. “I notice that he has become more serious. When he was at FC Volendam, he would sometimes visit our group of friends on Saturday evenings to have a beer. Nowadays we don't see him anymore and he sends photos of salads and rice with chicken.”

Over the past two seasons, Veerman has become an indispensable link at PSV. This year the counter already stands at three goals and eleven assists. “Joey is a born talent,” says Edwin Keizer, former FC Volendam player. “With him in the team you have so much extra quality. There have always been doubts about him. This is due to his almost careless appearance.”

Keizer points out that people have been looking at what Veerman 'is not doing right' for a long time. “He was often accused of not making enough meters and not switching properly. But I think all statistics show that he has improved enormously on his negative points.”

Keizer thinks that Veerman is most suitable for the Spanish competition. His good friend Schokker is also interested in a transfer to LaLiga. “Joey prefers to go to Spain. We hope that our friends' weekend will be Valencia or Seville. We can see ourselves lying on the beach there. Two years at Valencia or Real Betis and then on to Atletico Madrid.”
