Bram van Polen will also play at PEC Zwolle next season. The 35-year-old defender has extended his expiring contract by one year, thus starting his fifteenth season in Zwolle. Thanks to the new agreement, Van Polen can become the longest-serving player in the Eredivisie after this season at the same club. That title has now been awarded to Robert Zwinkels, who sees his record slip out of hands after a relegation with ADO Den Haag to the Kitchen Champion Division.
Van Polen imposed two important conditions when extending his contract. “I still want to feel really fit and I want to be of value to the team,” he says on the club’s website. “Fortunately this is both still the case after all these years. In addition, this is my club and here is my end station as a football player, but we will postpone that end station for now. Of course the years will count, but the body can do it. I’m still fine and mentally I feel fresh. I love to stick to it for another year. “

Zwolle already gave a preview of the news on Friday morning with a full-page advertisement The Stentor of a cheering Van Polen and the text ‘club love exists’. In addition, the club had several former players pose in the shirt, including Arne Slot, Wout Brama and Eric Botteghin. “The experience Bram brings is benefited every day by the other guys”, says technical manager Mike Willems. “He always leads the way in training and in terms of condition he still performs above the norm. All this makes Bram an absolute added value for PEC Zwolle, also in the coming season.”
Van Polen went through the youth training at Vitesse, but was never able to play an official match in the main force for the Arnhem team. He then decided in 2007 to make the switch to Zwolle, where he became champion of the first division, won the TOTO KNVB Cup at the expense of Ajax and was also too strong for the team from Amsterdam in the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale. Since the departure of Joey van den Berg halfway through the 2012/13 season, he has been wearing the captain’s armband.
