Joey Veerman was able to make a switch last winter. Two clubs were specifically in the race for the PSV player: Zenit and Al-Ettifaq. This was confirmed by agent Nathan van Kooperen on Sunday morning Good morning Eredivisie.

“I want to ask Nathan something about Joey Veerman,” presenter Milan van Dongen introduces the subject. Van Kooperen and his office, Muy Manero, represent the interests of the Volendam midfielder.

“Could he have gone in the winter?” asks Van Dongen. “Yes,” Van Kooperen answers firmly. “There was a bid from Saudi Arabia and a bid from Russia.”

“Two typical clubs for Veerman,” Van Dongen jokes, while Hans Kraay junior tries to clarify which clubs they are exactly. “Zenit?” asks the analyst. “Yes,” answers the agent. “And which club from Saudi Arabia?” asks Van Dongen. “Al-Ettifaq,” says Van Kooperen.

Veerman has not actually thought for a second about a transfer to Al-Ettifaq or Zenit, the player's agent says. “PSV was very clear: it was impossible.”

Contract extension

A possible contract extension for Veerman will soon be discussed. The midfielder is still in Eindhoven until mid-2026. “PSV really wants to extend, and so does Joey,” says Van Kooperen. “We are now going to see if we can find a solution together.”

“It's no secret that Joey really wants to make a move in the summer, but he still has everything to play for. Becoming champion with PSV, going far in the Champions League, a European Championship is coming up. To take a step now was not wise.”

“If nothing comes along as he expects in the summer, he will be in a very good place at PSV.” A possible contract extension at PSV could 'for example' be accompanied by a salary increase, Van Kooperen concludes.
