Louis van Gaal will be officially presented as the new national coach of the Dutch national team on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Frank de Boer’s successor has already put together his first pre-selection and will reduce it from 25 to 23 names later this month. In talk show Rondo asks presenter Wytse van der Goot who the most striking name in the pre-selection is and almost all analysts agree on that.

“Pasveer”, Jan van Halst responds, after which Ruud Gullit and Ronald de Boer nod in agreement. “Sure.” Marco van Basten also mentions the name of Guus Til. “He has been on the bench for the past two years. He has now played a few games and is immediately with the the Dutch squad. I think that is very fast.” According to De Boer, Til benefits from the fact that many other players are not yet match fit. “There are players who have not started at all. And Van Gaal only looks at players who are already one hundred percent.”

Ronald de Boer is asked in the broadcast how his brother Frank is doing after his departure as national coach. “It was quite a blow, of course, with the loss against the Czech Republic,” the analyst agrees. “It also hit him hard. You have to deal with that. I think that goes well. In the beginning it may have been sleepless nights, but Frank can also let it go at some point.” At the moment, Frank de Boer does not see a new trainer job, Ronald suspects. “I think at the moment he thinks: it can be stolen from me. But you know how it goes: sometimes it starts to itch again and you have new energy. But if you ask him now if he wants to get back to work, think I don’t.”

“He also took a one-way ticket to Marbella,” continues De Boer. “I went to see him for five days two weeks ago. I asked him if he would have made different choices afterwards. ‘No, I would do it again,’ he responded. I would still play 5-3-2 with the players I have.” Of course, it’s my brother, and sometimes I think you can play a little more attacking, like 5-2-3 or 4-3-3. But if you go, you have to do it your way.” At the beginning of September, the the Dutch squad will play three World Cup qualifiers against Norway (September 1), Montenegro (September 4) and Turkey (September 7).

Louis van Gaal’s presentation can be followed live on Voetbalzone from 3 p.m.
