René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen pass a positive judgment on Denzel Dumfries after the 2-0 victory of the Netherlands over Austria, who scored again during this European Championship. Van der Gijp believes that the attacking wing back of the Dutch is doing well and is certainly not inferior to players such as Manchester City’s Kyle Walker.

“Of course that Dumfries now thinks: If I immediately shoot three against North Macedonia, then I will be the all-time top scorer in the Netherlands, I will even pass Johan Cruijff“, Van der Gijp opens in The the Dutch Summer about the accurate right back of the Dutch national team. Wim Kieft is sure that Dumfries will play itself fully in the shop window during this European Championship. “You bet that the clubs are lining up for such a back.” Van der Gijp fully agrees with that statement. “Of course those clubs are lining up for him.”

“René, compare him with the right back of Manchester City (Kyle Walker, ed.), then I much prefer him,” Derksen adds. “Kyle Walker. He runs in blind all the time”, Van der Gijp then gives his clear opinion about the English defender. “And what do you think of that Dutch left back from Paris Saint-Germain (Mitchel Bakker, ed.), he can beat Dumfries ten times”, Derksen adds to his colleague analyst.

“That Kyle Walker came from Tottenham Hotspur, right? A godsend has been paid for that (sixty million euros, ed.)”, Van der Gijp expresses his surprise, an opinion that Derksen can substantiate. “That’s a bit of a stupid footballer.” Despite the strong performance of Dumfries, Van der Gijp still sees an area for improvement. “In the Dutch competition, the lower limit is sometimes bad for him now and then. That he can dive far away. He has to boost that a bit if you go to a bigger club”, Dumfries is advised.

Dumfries thought the penalty he was awarded for David Alaba’s foul was justified. “I tapped the ball away and walked on, while he got in. A justified penalty”, it sounded at the end of the game. NOS. The right back scored himself in the second half, already his second goal of this European Championship. A boyhood dream, he judges. “It’s starting to look like that. You know what we’re going for, we grow into it and it feels good.” According to Dumfries, the Dutch had complete control against poor Austria. “We were sharp and kept the clean sheet well. We controlled the game well, created chances and were dominant. It’s a deserved win.”
