According to club watcher Mike Verweij, the offer that Ajax has made to Brian Brobbey is far below the salary that the nineteen-year-old striker will earn at RB Leipzig. In the Kick-Offpodcast from The Telegraph says the journalist that director of football affairs Marc Overmars has made him an offer of one million euros a year. That amount could have risen to 1.5 million, while the attacker in the Bundesliga will earn three million annually. “But it’s all reported, huh,” the journalist emphasizes.

Overmars was in negotiations for a long time with José Fortes Rodriguez and Mino Raiola, who represent Brobbey’s interests. Ajax finally announced last month that the negotiations had come to nothing and that the striker would leave transfer-free after this season. On Friday it was announced that Brobbey has signed a four-year contract with Leipzig, Germany’s number two, despite the fact that Overmars would have flown to Monaco to still come to an agreement with Raiola. “Brobbey is reportedly going to earn three million a year in Germany. And at Ajax he could get a million gross. Rising to one and a half million euros ”, says Verweij.

For comparison, Verweij is asked by presenter Pim Sedee how the offer to Brobbey relates to the salary of Ryan Gravenberch. “I think that also increases to one and a half million. Those are such amounts for very young players. Ziyech made five million, but would you give Brobbey five million already? ”He wonders aloud. The club watcher thinks he knows why Overmars has not offered even more. “If Brobbey were to make two or three million now, then you have the biggest misery in the dressing room. That just isn’t possible, “he says.

Valentijn Driessen, the newspaper’s chief football player, states that Ajax striker Sébastien Haller receives a salary of five million euros per year. “I don’t believe that Haller earns five million”, Verweij responds. “I think so,” said Driessen. “If you pick someone up for 22.5 million with the salary he made in England, which was more than five million, I don’t think he’s going to sign for under five million.” According to Verweij, this is also the problem of Brobbey’s departure. Mino Raiola simply says: you think Haller is your best and most expensive player? Brobbey is not that good, so he has to earn the same. ”

Driessen thinks that Ajax should have gone further in the attempt to keep Brobbey. He thinks the club should have made a proposal that would give him the opportunity to grow to a higher amount ‘in the very short term’. “Perhaps that is also the perspective that Brobbey did not have and that he was looking for at Ajax. I think the amount that Mike says is just too low for such a player. He is a potential Dutch national team striker ”, said Driessen. “Overmars says that they have done everything they can at Ajax to keep him. But when I hear the amounts from Mike, I think you haven’t gone very far at all. ”

Brobbey may also have received signing money at his new club, Driessen thinks. “Then you didn’t go very far at all,” he continues. “Then you can say that you flew to Monaco, but then you have to fly to Monaco with real money. And not with this amount. ” Verweij calls Brobbey’s departure ‘deadly sin’. “If you had come up with a million in the beginning … That’s the trick, you have to see the potential of a player. As Brobbey started to come in excellent and scored a lot, it became more and more difficult to keep him. Because every time there was a million on top. ”

Verweij previously announced that after his substitution against Lille OSC (1-2 win) in the Europa League, in which he scored the winning goal, Brobbey would have told his agent to finalize the contract with Ajax. “On the same evening he got a call from the top boss of Leipzig and he promised him about a basic place”, he reveals.
