Gianluigi Donnarumma returns to Milan on Wednesday evening. The goalkeeper of Paris Saint-Germain, who came over on a free transfer from AC Milan last summer, will play the semi-finals of the Nations League against Spain in San Siro with Italy. However, the goalie does not have to count on a warm welcome, as the hard core of Milan has expressed its distaste for the short-lived return of Donnarumma by means of a banner.

Tensions in the hard core of AC Milan have clearly not cooled down, witness a banner that was hung on a bridge in Milan on Tuesday. “Donnarumma, damn it. You are never welcome in Milan again,” read the text on the canvas made by Ultras Curva Sud. Milan fans blame the Italian goalkeeper for not wanting to renew his contract with the club last summer and instead went on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Donnarumma hopes that all vicissitudes will not get the better of him when he makes playing minutes in San Siro on Wednesday evening for the first time since May 23. “A flute concert? If that happened I would be very disappointed. I have always given everything for Milan. I hope that all that is put aside on Wednesday and that it will not happen. I am excited to play in Milan again: AC Milan will always be my club,” the goalkeeper said during the press conference.

Fabio Capello, who came to 32 caps on behalf of Italy between 1972 and 1976, does not seem to disapprove of the action of the hard core of Milan. “I hope he (Donnarumma, ed.) is satisfied, because he is a player who has made a fundamental contribution to the European title,” said Capello. “But one thing is clear: Donnarumma has been ungrateful to Milan with his transfer to PSG. Ugly for everything the club has done for him. Both for him and for his family. He should have behaved differently.”
