Bruno Fernandes calls for a rule change. The Manchester United midfielder believes players should not be given a yellow card for taking off their shirt after scoring a goal.

On Sunday afternoon, Manchester United managed to defeat Liverpool in a thriller. In the quarter-final of the FA Cup, manager Erik ten Hag's team was too strong for their arch-rivals from Liverpool 4-3.

Manchester United came back from behind twice and only took control of the game in the 120th minute. Amad Diallo shot through the inside of the post on a pass from Alejandro Garnacho.

The Ivorian took off his shirt out of joy and received a yellow card for it. However, five minutes earlier he had received his first print, which resulted in him being sent off the field.

Bruno Fernandes believes that taking off the shirt should not be punished with a yellow card. “The rule needs to be changed,” he said in conversation with The Athletic.

“You just have to be able to celebrate a goal. This really needs to be changed. You should be able to celebrate your goal however you want, with respect for the opponent of course.”

The rule also came under fire in 2020. Lionel Messi had to receive a yellow card when he took off his shirt. On his undershirt was a tribute to the then recently deceased Diego Maradona.
