The Orange Lionesses managed to keep their perfect score in the European Championships intact. After the first six games were already turned into a victory, they won from Russia for a second time on Friday-afternoon in Moscow. Jill Roord made the only hit of the game after fifteen minutes of play.

Federal coach Sarina Wiegman could not appeal to Sherida Spitse for the duel, who was not allowed to travel to Russia by her employer Valerenga. The Orange Lionesses had to hunt for victory without the record international and were given a big chance after two minutes of play when Daniëlle van de Donk hit the bar with a header.

After this miss it didn’t take long before the ball was still in it. With fifteen minutes on the clock Roord cut in after a short corner and turned the ball nicely behind Tatyana Shcherbak. The Dutch women then stayed on top of the game, and not long after the opening goal the aluminium was struck again when Dominique Janssen popped the post about 25 metres from the post.

In the second half the tempo then dropped a bit and a quarter of an hour before time there was also danger from the home side. Because Aniek Nouwen was able to block the effort, however, it stayed at 0-1. The Dutch Leeuwinnen now lead Group A in the European Championships with 21 runs from 7 games. Russia and Slovenia are the first chasers, twelve points behind.
