The Football Federation of Ukraine is taking steps to punish Anatoliy Tymoshchuk for remaining silent about the Russian invasion and his decision to continue working for Zenit St. Petersburg. Tymoshchuk is Ukraine’s record international with 144 appearances and captained the national team for four years before ending his football career in 2016.

Tymoshchuk, 42, is currently an assistant coach at Zenit. He has faced heavy criticism in the past week for his decision not to speak out against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while also continuing his work at Zenit despite the conflict in his homeland. Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi recently dropped Tymoshchuk due to his silence. “He is one hundred percent no longer a legend of Ukrainian football,” Malinovskyi wrote on Twitter.

The Football Federation of Ukraine now concludes that Tymoshchuk has violated the Code of Conduct and Fair Play regulations and has ‘damaged the image of Ukrainian football’. The union is demanding that Tymoshchuk lose his UEFA Pro coaching license, which he obtained in Ukraine. The governing body has also asked that the former professional footballer be stripped of all titles he won in Ukraine, including three titles with Shakhtar Donetsk, three Ukrainian Cups and the Ukrainian Super Cup. Finally, the football association also wants to strip Tymoshchuk of his 144 international matches.

Since the beginning of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, Anatoliy Tymoschuk, the former captain of the Ukrainian national football team, has not only refused to make a public statement on the matter, but also has not terminated his duties at Zenit Saint Petersburg. can be read in a statement from the football association. “At a time when his former club, Bayern Munich, is publishing statements and supporting Ukraine, Tymoschuk remains silent and works for Zenit.”
