UEFA expects to host a total of 8,000 English clubs in Istanbul at the Champions League final on Saturday 29 May. Finalists Chelsea and Manchester City will both receive 4,000 tickets for the final battle in Turkey later this month. The Turkish and English authorities still have to approve a number of things before ticket sales can finally start.

It is currently not known how many visitors in total will be present at the final of the billion dollar ball in the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. The shelter normally can accommodate up to 76,000 spectators, but due to the corona crisis, that number will not be reached by a long shot. Despite this, it is possible for a limited number of Chelsea and Manchester City supporters to cheer on their favorite club in Turkey.

The final will take place in Istanbul anyway, even though the final battle is between two English clubs. A possible last-minute transfer to London is out of the question, UEFA emphasizes on Thursday. “The game will be played in Istanbul on May 29,” a spokesman said in a response Sky Sports. On May 29, Wembley will not be available for the Champions League final anyway, because on that day the final battle of the play-offs in the Championship is scheduled.

UEFA hopes to release more details about the meeting between Chelsea and Manchester City in Istanbul before the weekend. Both clubs finished their matches in the semi-finals of the Champions League without an audience. Chelsea dealt with Real Madrid (2-0) on Wednesday, while Manchester City also proved too strong at home after the 1-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in France: 2-0.
