FC Twente is still unbeaten in this Eredivisie season. The team of trainer Ron Jans registered a 3-1 victory against FC Groningen on Friday-evening, which got itself into problems with two major errors in Enschede. On the side of FC Twente, there was once again an important role for Václav Cerny and Danilo Pereira, who both scored a goal and an assist.

Both FC Twente and FC Groningen worked towards the match in De Grolsch Veste with a reasonably good feeling. The Tukkers held Feyenoord last week in De Kuip to a 1-1 draw, while FC Groningen recorded a 0-1 victory at ADO Den Haag. FC Twente, however, started stronger in their own stadium and could have taken the lead after seventeen minutes of play. Václav Cerny benefited from fumbling in the build-up at FC Groningen, but was millimeters offside when making his goal. After video referee Allard Lindhout had watched the images for minutes, he decided to go along with the linesman’s decision to reject the hit.

Cerny got his hit five minutes later. After an error by Wessel Dammers, Danilo got possession of the ball, who in turn served the Czech attacker and saw him put the opening goal on the scoreboard. Fifteen minutes later the tables were turned, when Cerny enabled Danilo to score. The goal of the royal couple, who also scored a goal together against Feyenoord last week, however, was introduced by a weak pass from FC Groningen goalkeeper Sergio Padt, who placed the ball right in the feet of Wout Brama.

In the second half FC Twente had it a lot more difficult, which resulted in the connection goal seven minutes after the break. Ahmed El Messaoudi, who visited FC Twente for the first time this season in the starting eleven, headed for the 2-1. FC Groningen then went in search of the equalizer, which soon led to an opportunity for Jörgen Strand Larsen. After a lot of changes in the last half hour, the visitors sought the attack. However, real danger could no longer be founded by FC Groningen, while Padt initially prevented Queensy Menig from deciding the game prematurely.

The liberating 3-1 finally fell from the following corner. A header from Alexander Jeremejeff could not be turned on the goal line by Padt in time, so referee Sander van der Eijk awarded a goal. Remco Balk then hit the post on behalf of FC Groningen, which saved FC Twente an exciting injury time. FC Twente thus raises its points total after three games to seven, while a meeting with FC Emmen is scheduled for next week.
