Youri Regeer will make the switch from Ajax to FC Twente. It General Journal know that the clubs have agreed in outline on a transfer fee of one million euros for the versatile right leg. This makes Regeer Twente’s first summer acquisition. In De Grolsch Veste, he is the successor to Ramiz Zerrouki, who is leaving for Feyenoord.

An agreement on Regeer had been in the works for some time. Leon van Voorde van TC Tubantia took an advance early last week and a day later Twente director Jan Streuer also confirmed the interest in Regeer. The nineteen-year-old right back annex defensive midfielder signs for four years in De Grolsch Veste, but may return to Amsterdam early. Ajax has stipulated a buy-back clause, although the amount is not known.

With the transfer, Twente trumps sc Heerenveen, among others, who already had contact with Regeer in the person of Kees van Wonderen. However, the native Haarlemmer prefers a transfer to the east. Regeer may be reunited next season with ex-teammate Anass Salah-Eddine, who is already out on a rental basis for Twente this season. Salah-Eddine is one of the players on Twente’s wish list, alongside Ruben van Bommel (MVV Maastricht) and Marouan Azarkan (Excelsior, rented from Feyenoord), among others.

Regeer made his debut for Ajax 1 in December 2021, then under head coach Erik ten Hag. Under neither Ten Hag nor his successors Alfred Schreuder and John Heitinga, however, the teenager was able to conquer a basic place. Regeer mostly plays his matches in Jong Ajax, where he made 26 appearances this season (one goal, four assists). The counter for ‘the great Ajax’ has stood at eight matches since his debut, in which he scored once.
