Liverpool once again suffered damage in the Premier League in an entertaining duel with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon. Manager Jürgen Klopp’s team still seemed to take the full loot after an early 0-2 deficit. Leandro Trossard hurt Liverpool in the final phase with his third goal of the afternoon: 3-3. Staying through the draw the Reds stabbing in ninth place.

Liverpool – Brighton & Hove Albion 3-3
The team of trainer Jürgen Klopp entered the international break with a 2-1 victory in the Champions League over Ajax. Compared to this game, Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Fabio Carvalho returned to the starting lineup. However, the home side started disastrously at Anfield, as there were less than four minutes on the clock when Brighton’s lead was already a fact. Henderson let himself be physically trumped, after which Danny Welbeck found Trossard with a subtle heel. The left winger simply shook off Trent-Alexander Arnold and then found the long corner: 0-1.

Liverpool could thank goalkeeper Alisson Becker that the damage did not increase further in the first fifteen minutes. Welbeck first headed straight into the hands of the Brazilian goalkeeper in a completely detached position. Alisson distinguished himself after Henderson’s careless loss of the ball by reducing his goal on an attempt by Trossard, who put the 0-2 on the scoreboard a few minutes later. The Belgian scored from the same angle as with his opening goal. Klopp saw that his team got better in the game after a surprise by Brighton halfway through the first half. For example, Joël Veltman was barely able to convert a dangerous cross from Alexander-Arnold into a corner.

Liverpool went on the hunt for the tie-breaker and finally found it. Fabinho put Mohamed Salah face to face with goalkeeper Robert Sánchez with a neat ball. The Egyptian put wide on Firmino, who was then able to print into an empty goal: 1-2. After the break, the home side looked a lot sharper. Firmino put Liverpool next to Brighton again with a smart capping move, before the game turned completely over due to a mistake by Sanchez, who didn’t look good on a corner. It was Adam Webster who unfortunately pushed the ball into his own goal. Liverpool seemed to keep the three points at Anfield, until Trossard struck again in the final phase. The attacker saw his shot through Alisson’s hands land at the bottom of the crossbar: 3-3.

Fulham – Newcastle United 1-4
The first half at Craven Cottage became one for Saturday afternoon The Cottagers to quickly forget. Trevoh Chalobah was shown a red card after six minutes because of a hard charge on Sean Longstaff’s ankle. With an excess, Newcastle United, where Sven Botman started in the base, then closed the game before half-time. Callum Wilson opened the score by heading in a cross from Joe Willock from close range.

The margin was doubled after more than half an hour by Miguel Almirón, who brilliantly shot the ball over goalkeeper Bernd Leno into the long corner from a difficult angle. On the stroke of half-time, Longstaff also shared in the revelry of the Magpies by reacting alertly to a rebound. Newcastle slowed down in the second half, but manager Eddie Howe saw Almirón sign up for his second goal of the day. The attacker could easily enter the 0-4 at the far post. Bobby Read managed to score an honorary goal on behalf of Fulham in the final minutes.
