Cristiano Romer’s impending transfer to Tottenham Hotspur has a knock-on effect. Atalanta will take over from Juventus as the successor to Romero, according to Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio Merih. Demiral’s departure gives la Vecchia Signora then again more financial room to increase the bid for Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

It was already reported Monday afternoon that Romero was on his way to Tottenham in a deal totaling fifty million euros. Romano initially slowed down that reporting in a live session on Twitch, but now reports that an agreement between Tottenham and Atalanta is approaching. Di Marzio previously reported that Atalanta will not let Romero go until his successor has arrived. Negotiations between Atalanta and Juventus are at an advanced stage. Demiral is in the pecking order at Juventus behind Giorgio Chiellini, Matthijs de Ligt and Leonardo Bonucci.

Romano reports that Atalanta has the best papers to take over Demiral from Juventus, after Borussia Dortmund was also concrete in the market for him earlier. Sky Italy states that Atalanta and Juventus have found each other in a rental deal, with an option to buy worth 25 to 30 million euros. Juventus had to compromise, because the asking price was initially forty million euros for Demiral’s contract, which runs until mid-2024.

However, Juventus realize that there is no higher transfer fee at the moment for the 23-year-old defender, who was acquired from Sassuolo in 2019 for eighteen million euros. At the same time, it is an option to let Demiral gain experience, possibly have a good amount left over from him and make financial room for Locatelli’s arrival. Juventus had made an offer to hire him from Sassuolo with a mandatory option to buy worth €35 million, but they have i Neroverdi not agreed. Sassuolo wants at least forty million euros for Locatelli.
