Trabzonspor took the first step on Tuesday evening towards reaching the final of the cup tournament in Turkey. The leader of the Süper Lig won 1-0 against Kayserispor and will play the return on May 10, 11 or 12. The other semifinal is between Alanyaspor and Sivasspor.

Trabzonspor has already won the cup nine times, while Kayserispor only came out on top in 2008. Although the top club is apparently heading for the national title without any threat, a boost was welcome after four consecutive league games without a win. In the first half against Kayserispor, the most opportunities were for Trabzonspor. After fifteen minutes, Edin Visca delivered a cross with the outside of the foot to Jean Evrard Kouassi, whose header was taken out of the mouth by defender Mert Çetin.

Midway through the first half, Visca’s low shot was parried by keeper Silviu Lung Jr.; three minutes before half time, Trabzonspor’s number 11 tried again, but this time his effort went wide. Kayserispor only made themselves heard just before half-time. From a corner kick came from close range an opportunity for Çetin, who missed the ball under pressure from opponents.

Trabzonspor missed a few chances in the second half, but struck in minute 87. Substitute Anthony Nwakaeme deftly got the ball off Andreas Cornelius, who took the leather on the chest and completed it from the five meter line. Because a free kick by Ilhan Parlak was saved by goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakir, Trabzonspor has a good starting position for next month’s return.
