Benfica has continued its midweek comeback against Ajax (2-2) in the Portuguese competition. The team of interim coach Nélson Veríssimo won at home with conviction from Vitória Guimarães: 3-0. Darwin Núñez added two more goals and is already on 20 league goals this season. After an hour, the star player was taken aside for Roman Yaremchuk, who received a lot of support from the public because of the war in his home country Ukraine. Yaremchuk was visibly moved by the massive standing ovation from the Portuguese spectators, who also showed their support for Ukraine with flags. Yaremchuk was also presented with the captain’s armband as a tribute by Jan Vertonghen, who had started as captain.

Vitória came close to scoring the opening goal in the opening phase, but Benfica was kept afloat by Odysseas Vlachodimos. The goalkeeper saved two great opportunities for Oscar Estupinan and saw his team take advantage of the first good opportunity after 24 minutes. Gilberto hurled the ball from the right, after which Gonçalo Ramos cleverly planted his shoe against it: 1-0.

Gilberto was on a roll, because after more than half an hour, another goal was scored from a cross from the right back. This time it was Darwin Núñez who put his head against the ball: 2-0. Benfica decided the game five minutes after the break, when Ramos entered the penalty area on the left and was tapped from behind. Núñez converted the subsequent penalty: 3-0. The now 38-year-old Ricardo Quaresma still came into the team with the opponent and immediately fired twice on target, but those attempts could not alarm Vlachodimos.
