Tijjani Reijnders’ future lies with AZ. The number three of the Eredivisie reports on Monday evening via its own website that Reijnders’ contract has been broken open and extended for two seasons. The midfielder will therefore be stuck in Alkmaar until mid-2025. Reijnders made his basic debut with AZ in December and made twenty appearances in the main squad this season, six of which as a basic player.

The 22-year-old Reijnders, son of former pro Martin Reijnders and brother of PEC Zwolle midfielder Eliano Reijnders, came over from PEC transfer-free in 2017. Initially he mainly made flying hours in Young AZ. On May 6, 2018, he got a chance in the Eredivisie for the first time as a substitute. Reijnders was let to RKC Waalwijk in the second half of the 2019/20 season and returned to Alkmaar in the summer of 2020. As he progressed this season, he took on a more prominent role in the first team, resulting in his basic debut.

“I am very happy that I can extend my contract for two years,” says Reijnders through the club channels. “Hence that broad smile. I feel a lot of confidence from the club towards next season, in which I aim for a basic place. In the last few months I have also shown that I can handle that. It is of course a crazy season due to corona, but for me personally it has been a positive year in which I have made many minutes and have grown as a player. ” In addition to his twenty appearances for AZ, Reijnders also played eight times for Young AZ this season.

Football affairs director Max Huiberts indicates that Reijnders has ‘a bit of bad luck’ that there are midfielders in the current selection who ‘do it very well’. “Nevertheless, he has already had a starting place six times this season and a lot of raids,” he added. “He has shown that he is now able to handle the level well. We have more players who want a place in the starting line-up, so it is important for Tijjani to continue to show that every day. But it is clear that we have a lot. have faith in him. “
