The England national team won against a battered Wales on Thursday evening without much effort. The British gathering at Wembley ended in a 3-0 win ahead the Three Lions. Conor Coady and Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Danny Ings scored their first goals for England. Wales starred without stars Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen. England will play against Belgium and Denmark in the Nations League next week.

With those two games in mind, national coach Gareth Southgate chose not to draft his best team. Two players even made their debut: Bukayo Saka and Calvert-Lewin wore the England shirt for the first time. The latter enhanced his baptism of fire with a goal after 25 minutes of play. Jack Grealish gave himself space on the right flank for a sharp cross, which was headed in by the Everton striker.

Wales had the majority of the ball in the first half, 55 at 45 percent, but became dangerous only once. From a promising position, Kieffer Moore, who later retired in the first half with an injury, shot wide of Nick Pope’s goal. Seven minutes before half-time, Coady failed to double the margin, but he did so in the second half. The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender was in the right place to promote a curving free kick by Kieran Trippier from close range to a goal.

The best goal of the evening, however, came in the name of Danny Ings. Halfway through the second half, the attacker walked away from his guard, then completed with a close kick after a corner was extended by Tyrone Mings. For Ings it was also his first goal in the service of the national team. Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey prevented Saka from scoring on his debut, keeping it 3-0. England won a match against Wales for the sixth time in a row.
