Jack Grealish will play with number 10 at Manchester City. The most expensive club purchase ever, for 117 million euros from Aston Villa, was shown around his new club on Thursday and was shown his new shirt in the dressing room. “Wow. I didn’t even know I was going to play number 10. This made my day. My whole year, in fact,” Grealish beams when he sees his shirt. Grealish has also played with number 10 at Aston Villa in recent years.

At Manchester City, the number belonged to Sergio Aguero from the 2015/16 season, who has since left for Barcelona. Before that, it was worn by Edin Dzeko (between 2010 and 2015) and Robinho (between 2008 and 2010). Grealish has become the most expensive British player of all time in addition to being Manchester City’s most expensive club purchase. That record has been held for eight years by Gareth Bale, who went from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid in 2013 for 101 million euros. Grealish also becomes the most expensive purchase ever in the Premier League, taking over the record from Paul Pogba. Manchester United paid €105 million to Juventus in 2016 for the French midfielder.
