Wim Kieft currently thinks Brian Brobbey is the best striker that Ronald Koeman has at his disposal in the Dutch national team. The former striker thinks that the Ajax striker has the best credentials for a starting spot at the European Championships, but knows that there is quite a bit of resistance in the media. “You're allowed to say this, right?” Kieft asks Veronica Offside.

Wout Weghorst made a lot of noise on Sunday after his substitution at TSG Hoffenheim, a moment that was also shown in the talk show. Kieft is not a big fan of Weghorst, who scored twice at the World Cup in the quarter-final against Argentina (2-2, vns).

“Given his qualities, Weghorst has done well in the Dutch team, but in principle Brobbey will be the number one striker, unless Koeman wants to play there with Memphis Depay. You can say that, or not? That Brobbey is a good player. That seems to be a bold statement these days,” Kieft laughs.

There is little doubt for the former striker. “Brobbey is more complete than Wout Weghorst. Yesterday against SC Heerenveen it was not Brobbey's best game – as a striker you are always dependent on the team – but when you see how he asks for that ball in depth, with his outside right takes it and puts it back properly…” Kristian Hlynsson seemed to score, but the Ajax midfielder's shot was half cracked and ended up on the crossbar.

“You can use Brobbey in depth, but that is of course not possible with Weghorst. If you look: who is currently the best striker to play in the Dutch national team? Then it is Brobbey.”

Andy van der Meijde stands up for Weghorst. “We need a player like Weghorst, right? He can always bring something extra,” asks Van der Meijde. “Yes, you can keep him there,” Kieft responds. “Don't you feel a little bit ashamed of Wout Weghorst?” asks Hugo Borst.

The football critic would like to give the chance to someone else in March. “Shouldn't we test Joshua Zirkzee in the coming international match against Germany?” Borst wonders. Van der Meijde indeed wants to give the Bologna striker, who is doing excellently in Italy, a chance. “You can just try that,” said the former right winger.
