Sergio Peña has been the victim of an armed robbery in Peru. The attacking midfielder of FC Emmen is on holiday in his home country after participating in the Copa América and was robbed together with his cousin, he writes in a message on Instagram. Peña and his nephew are unharmed, but their belongings have been captured.

“I have just been a victim of a robbery by two criminals, who pointed a gun at my head,” Peña writes in the message, which was published Friday night Dutch time. “They took a necklace, a watch and three mobile phones. Fortunately, my cousin and I are doing well. We were just scared. Unfortunately, things like this keep happening in our country.”

Peña says the incident took place near Plaza Vea El Cortijo, a shopping center in Lima. Much to his frustration, the security cameras at the site were not working, he added, leaving no footage to track down the culprits. The eighteen-time international of Peru will in principle join the selection of FC Emmen after his holiday. He was relegated with the club last season, but his contract runs for another year.
