Latest update:

Rodrigo Bentancur is in deep shock after a nasty comment about Heung-min Son, one of his teammates at Tottenham Hotspur. The Uruguayan made an extremely inappropriate joke about Son's appearance on national television.

A Uruguayan journalist asked Bentancur if it was possible to get him a shirt of a Spurs player. Bentancur did not respond in a very sensible manner.

“Sonny's,” was the midfielder's response. “It could also be his cousin's shirt, because they all look alike.”

Many people did not like Bentancur's comment and expressed their dissatisfaction on social media. The 26-year-old midfielder subsequently apologized online for the comment.

“Sonny, brother! I apologize for what happened, it was just a really bad joke. You know I love you and I would never treat you disrespectfully or hurt you or anyone else!”, the message reads.

Bentancur is currently preparing with the Uruguay national team for the Copa América, which starts next week in the United States. Son played two qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup with South Korea.
