The referee report by Pablo González Fuertes has revealed why Ronald Koeman received a red card in the second half of the game between Barcelona and Granada (1-2) in LaLiga on Thursday evening. The Dutchman shouted in the 66th minute, ‘despite some warnings’, vaya personaje towards the fourth man, so it can be read. That roughly translates as ‘You are quite special’, ‘You are one of them’ or ‘What a character’.

The question now is whether Koeman will indeed be suspended for such a ruling and if so, for how many matches. A direct red card means, according to Spanish media, that a trainer has to let go of the next two games of the same competition. That would mean that Koeman will not be there on Sunday when Barcelona plays in and against Valencia and will visit next Saturday as leader Atlético Madrid.

Immediately afterwards, Koeman assured that he had not used swear words and said he had not offended anyone. The Spanish Referees Committee will now have to determine whether vaya personaje indeed has been a valid reason to send Koeman to the stands and what punishment this entails. “Disrespect is when you insult someone and that hasn’t happened. We discussed a few moments during the match and that was done in a respectful way ”, emphasized Koeman.

“I would like to know which words I used then. In any case, no ugly words. ” Koeman would regret his absence from the upcoming duels. “I don’t know if that will affect the team. It does affect me. If I’ve used ugly words it’s my responsibility, but it wasn’t. We will have to wait. I can’t say more about it. ”
