Matthew Garbett (NAC Breda, New Zealand)

NAC midfielder Matthew Garbett (22) had a successful start to the Olympic Games on Wednesday. The London-born right-footer missed a penalty against Guinea, but contributed to a 2-1 victory for New Zealand with the opening goal a minute later. Garbett is also captain of his country, for whom he has also played two A-internationals.

Paxten Aaronson (FC Utrecht, United States)

Although Vitesse has been relegated, Paxten Aaronson (20) will remain in the Eredivisie next season. Eintracht Frankfurt has decided to place the American at FC Utrecht this time. First-team player Aaronson could not prevent a 3-0 defeat against the French Olympic team.

Taylor Booth (FC Utrecht, United States)

In addition to Aaronson, Utrecht tastemaker Taylor Booth (23) is also participating Team USA. Both have already made their debut for the flagship, but may show themselves in France this summer. Trainer Ron Jans will hope that the duo will soon report back to the Domstad.

Gerónimo Rulli (Ajax, Argentina)

The 32-year-old Gerónimo Rulli is playing for Argentina as a dispensation player. In France, the goalkeeper was told that Remko Pasveer will be the first goalkeeper at Ajax and according to ESPN he wants to leave Amsterdam after the Olympic Games. Rulli could not prevent a defeat against Morocco (1-2).

Hussein Ali (sc Heerenveen, Iraq)

Winger Hussein Ali (22) failed to secure a starting spot at sc Heerenveen in the past two seasons, but was in the starting line-up for Iraq on Wednesday against Ukraine (2-1 win). With Youssef Amyn, another outstanding former Feyenoord player was in the starting line-up for the Iraqis.

Kodai Sano (NEC Nijmegen, Japan)

NEC attacker Kodai Sano (20) will have to tolerate former Sparta player Koki Saito ahead of him at the Japanese Olympic team. The winger from Lommel SK was immediately good for two assists against Paraguay (5-0 win). Incidentally, Sano has also gained a formidable competitor at NEC in teenager Basar Önal.

Shunsuke Mito (Sparta Rotterdam, Japan)

Spartan Shunsuke Mito (21) was one of the biggest stars during the first round of the Olympic Games. The 1.64 meter tall Japanese was a nuisance for the Paraguayan defense and managed to cash in on his good play with two goals. Next season, the lightning-fast and agile Mito must make up for the absence of Saito at Het Kasteel.
