The Netherlands again did excellent business on the coefficient ranking list on Thursday evening. Thanks to Ajax’s victory plus reaching the quarter-finals, the Netherlands can add 0.6 points to the UEFA ranking. In addition, the last remaining competitors of the Netherlands were eliminated from the Europa League.

After Ajax’s first victory against Young Boys last week, it was already clear that the Netherlands will finish in seventh place in the ranking this season. The Netherlands increases the gap with Russia to 0.608 points, while Belgium is put at 2.5 points. The extra points earned by Ajax are more than welcome, because next season Russia, Scotland, Austria, Ukraine and Belgium will again make an attempt to push the Netherlands from seventh place.

Until Thursday evening, Ukraine had two active clubs in the Europa League with Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kiev, but had a disastrous evening. Shakhtar lost 1-2 at home against AS Roma, while Kiev was eliminated by Villarreal. Scotland also saw its last remaining participant drop out: Rangers went down in-house against Slavia Prague (0-2, after 1-1 in the first leg).
