The finish line is only in a year and a half, but the scenario of two direct Champions League tickets is becoming more and more realistic for the Netherlands. The Eredivisie clubs also delivered a fantastic team performance in the fifth European round, as a result of which the Netherlands once again overtook Portugal. There is still a long way to go, but if the lead is still in place after the 2022/23 season, the Netherlands will secure two places in the group stage of the Champions League for the 2024/25 season.
The story of the coefficient ranking for the Netherlands has been the same all season: the country is now seventh and has to go to at least sixth place for two direct Champions League tickets. That is impossible this season, because the gap to Portugal and France is simply too great. However, as of July 1, 2022, the dramatic 2017/18 season for the Netherlands will disappear (because the position is always calculated over the last five seasons), and from that moment Portugal and France can be permanently threatened. In that ranking as of 1 July 2022, the Netherlands has lost 0.9 points to Portugal this week. The lead on that score from next year is now almost 1.1 points. The Netherlands has therefore already built up a margin.

The Netherlands again won a load of points, because no participant lost. Ajax beat Besiktas (+0.4 for the country), Feyenoord and Vitesse gained a point at the last minute (both +0.2) and a little later AZ also did (+0.2). PSV achieved the maximum score by winning (+0.4). AZ and Feyenoord also assured themselves of group wins in the Conference League, for which bonus points are awarded: the Netherlands therefore adds an additional 0.4 point two times. The total score for this round is therefore 2.2 points.
Portugal did excellent business with Sporting, which defeated Borussia Dortmund (+0.333) and also qualified for the next round of the Champions League (+0.833). In breadth, however, Portugal scored badly, because FC Porto and Sporting Braga lost, while Benfica scored a point (+0.167). The Portuguese only score 1.333 points this round. The Southern Europeans still pose a threat to the Netherlands, because Benfica and FC Porto can still ensure their winter in the Champions League in the last round. That would give them a big bonus. France again scores very well (+3.0 points) and is slowly disappearing from sight for the Netherlands, making Portugal the target.
