ESPN analysts don’t understand Jasper Cillessen’s blunder. The goalkeeper of NEC made an unprecedented mistake during the Eredivisie match with sc Heerenveen just before time. Cillessen let the ball roll into his goal, resulting in a 2-3 victory for the Frisians in De Goffert.
In the final phase, Cillessen made a horrific mistake. The goalkeeper thought the ball would go wide, but was completely wrong and saw Antoine Colassin’s ‘bet’ roll in via the post. “He is definitely not good at it, is he”, Marciano Vink concludes ESPN. “Two or three weeks ago he embarrassed himself during the Frisian derby and now he is actually doing it again. The national coach also sees this, of course…”
“Cillessen naturally thinks that the ball goes wide, we all understand that, I think,” says Kenneth Perez. “But why doesn’t he just take this ball? Why does he let the ball go behind? It is 2-2, you have the same chance to win as Heerenveen.” Due to Cillessen’s enormous bounce, Heerenveen came in points with NEC (38). The backlog at number eight RKC is currently three points for the team of trainer Rogier Meijer.
Cillessen had a dramatic first half of the Gelderland derby between NEC and Vitesse in mid-April, which led 0-2 halfway through. The goalkeeper didn’t look great at first with Matus Bero’s striking long shot, but he made it all the way with the second Arnhem goal. Mohamed Sankoh easily snatched the ball from him within the box, after which Kacper Kozlowski was able to tap in from close range. After the break, Cillessen made a terrible mistake with a throw, which eventually led to a goal by Kozlowski. However, he did so in an offside position, to the relief of the failing goalkeeper.
