Guram Kashia is open to a return to the Eredivisie. The 33-year-old defender played almost three hundred matches for Vitesse between 2010 and 2018 and has been playing for Lokomotiv Tbilisi in his homeland Georgia since this year. If it is up to Kashia, the exhibition match between the Netherlands and Georgia will not be his last game on Dutch soil.

“I love this country and the people, so to be honest I would really like that,” said Kashia at the press conference the day before the friendly international match in De Grolsch Veste. “But it is very difficult because of the rules in the Netherlands. They make it difficult for clubs to get players from outside Europe.”

“I would really like to, but I would also like to play for the best teams in the world and that’s not happening,” Kashia said with a laugh. The defender, who turns 34 next month, expects to be able to last at least four to five years. “I want to keep playing for as long as possible.”

Willy Sagnol, the French national coach of Georgia, put in a good word for his captain. “He is in very good shape, in top condition. People will see that tomorrow. So for all Dutch clubs: he is in top form.” Kashia exchanged Vitesse in 2018 for the American San Jose Earthquakes
