Joey Veerman came on as a substitute for the Dutch national team on Tuesday. The PSV midfielder will soon be given another chance by national coach Ronald Koeman after his very early substitution against Austria (2-3 loss). Veerman has the full support of the the Dutch legion, who chanted his name en masse several times after his substitution.
Veerman came on for club mate Jerdy Schouten in the 69th minute. Within minutes, Veerman had a golden opportunity to decide the match. The PSV player was freed on the left side of the penalty area by Xavi Simons and looked for the far corner, but sent the ball just wide.
