Real Madrid qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday. Zinedine Zidane’s team needed a scoreless draw at Anfield after the 3-1 win over Liverpool at home: 0-0. It was also the night that a record series in the Champions League came to an end. After no fewer than 23 knockout stage matches in a row with at least one goal since the 0-0 draw against Manchester City in April 2016, the best streak of any club, Real Madrid failed to score for the first time.

It is already the thirtieth time for Real Madrid that they find themselves in the last four of the European Cup I or Champions League: at least ten times more than any other club in Europe. Also not unimportant: Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have won the European Cup I or Champions League a total of fourteen times. However, thirteen of these fourteen trophies were claimed by the Spanish top club.
