Luis Suárez was recently informed in a short telephone conversation by Ronald Koeman that he is no longer in the plans at Barcelona. The Uruguayan has since been explicitly associated with leaving Camp Nou, with Juventus as the most emphatic candidate. More than three weeks before the end of the transfer window, however, there is still no solution to the situation of the routine in sight, and a longer stay of Suárez is still possible.

ASJ reported over the weekend that Suárez himself ‘has all the cards in hand’. The 33-year-old striker sits at Barcelona for another year, and this commitment includes that his contract is automatically extended by one year if he plays at least sixty percent of the minutes Barcelona have on the field next season. His good friend Lionel Messi also recently announced that he would be staying another year, so there is no ‘isolation’ of Suárez in the locker room.

It also looks like Suárez can count on the support of the new coach. The way Koeman conveys the message that the attacker is allowed to leave in a short and matter-of-fact telephone conversation made it seem as if it was a choice of the coach. The Catalan radio station RAC1 believes, however, that this is not the case: “As for me, you can stay, this is the club that does not want to continue with you”, Koeman Suárez said.

Because Barcelona do not have the money to attract other goal scorers as long as he stays and he has the confidence of Koeman, Suárez expects him to make enough minutes next season as well. If it comes from a transfer, the attacker does not expect to lose a dollar. Barcelona will then have to think of a way to terminate his contract, or sell him to Juventus or the equally interested Atlético Madrid. Here he can also earn a substantial salary.

Barcelona want to get rid of Suárez to remove his salary from the books, but it does not seem like an easy job. Previously, Ivan greeted Rakitic, who had returned to Sevilla. Arturo Vidal, another great earner, is in all likelihood on his way to Internazionale.
