Luka Ivanusec will be missing from Feyenoord in the away match against FC Volendam on Thursday, it became clear on Wednesday. The Croatian wing attacker, who was also missing against FC Utrecht on Sunday (4-2 win), will not be fit in time for the visit to the bottom of the league in the Eredivisie.

Justin Bijlow, Gernot Trauner, Antoni Milambo, Gjivai Zechiël, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Quilindschy Hartman will also not participate in the away match in Volendam. Hartman suffered a serious injury in the meeting with Utrecht last weekend and will not return to the Feyenoord selection until next season.

“First of all, a huge drama for him. Naturally, we will support him as a club wherever possible in the near future,” Slot said at Wednesday's press conference in the run-up to Thursday's match in Volendam.

Talents come along

Slot has decided to include the talented attacker Jaden Slory, who is still waiting for his debut in the main squad, in the match selection. The same applies to defender Givairo Read, who has already received playing time in the first team of the Rotterdam team.

Feyenoord's coach enjoyed Sunday's 4-2 win over Utrecht. “One of our better games this season. Not only because of the comeback after being 0-2 down, but certainly also because of how we played football throughout the match.”

No underestimation

Slot is therefore hopeful, but there is no question of underestimating last-place Volendam. “In the situation Volendam is in, every point is a point. Also for confidence in the team,” the coach refers to the 1-1 draw against Almere City FC last weekend.

The Feyenoord coach also reflects on the home game with Volendam in December, when his team only secured the 3-1 win in injury time. “That match showed that we cannot afford to be less sharp against any opponent.”
