Lex Schoenmaker is very impressed by the development of Luis Sinisterra. The Feyenoord attacker has already scored eight hits in the Conference League this season, and can come close to Schoenmaker’s record in a European context in the upcoming diptych with Slavia Prague: eleven. Schoenmaker thoroughly enjoys the ‘complete’ Colombian, who, according to the former attacker, owes a lot to two of his last three trainers.

Sinisterra had a difficult start at Feyenoord after coming to Rotterdam in the summer of 2018. The five-time Colombian international only made a handful of league games in his debut season, but then trainer Jaap Stam was the first to see it in him in 2019. However, the coach had to leave the field early after his appointment. “But after that Sinisterra continued that upward trend and it has grown to its current level”, Schoenmaker looks back. The Telegraph

The wing attacker was sidelined for a large part of 2020 due to a lingering knee injury, but immediately fought back in the starting eleven of the Rotterdam team. This season, in particular, Sinisterra became an absolute star in Arne Slot’s team. “He has come back stronger from that setback”, Schoenmaker also thinks. Feyenoord’s all-time top scorer in Europe (nineteen goals) enjoys Sinisterra immensely, who he even hopes will crush his own record. “It is very special that he combines his speed with a very short passing action. As a result, he can be decisive even in a small space in an overcrowded penalty area. He remains calm for the goal. The finesse of finishing, that could be better”, Schoenmaker punctually still a point for improvement.

The 74-year-old Hagenaar believes that the advance of Sinisterra, who has scored 19 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season, deserves all the praise. “He (Siniterra, ed.) had to overcome quite a few obstacles. The public did not like it immediately and was quite biased. (Former technical director, ed.) Martin van Geel got him and you often heard: ‘it must be nothing That approach by the outside world of new players at Feyenoord has changed under trainer Slot.”
