Telstar and FC Volendam will compete against each other on Friday 15 October in specially designed rainbow uniforms. The two clubs from the Kitchen Champion Division do this to draw attention to the LGBTI community. It is the second time in a short time that Telstar has received attention in a special way. Last week, the club from Velsen was frequently in the news because national coach Louis van Gaal once stood along the line as a trainer.
In all competitions in the Eredivisie and Kitchen Champion Division, the so-called All Together Challenge, an initiative of the Alliantie Draw 4.0 (John Blankenstein Foundation, NOC*NSF, KNVB and KNHB) in collaboration with the Eredivisie, Keuken Kampioen Division, Pure Energie Eredivisie Women, Eredivisie Futsal Men, Eredivisie Futsal Women, VVCS, CBV and ESPN. This is an annual initiative in which, among other things, all captains wear a rainbow band. Telstar and FC Volendam go one step further with the specially designed rainbow uniforms.

“Telstar is a club where we never make a distinction between people and where everyone is welcome,” Telstar chairman Pieter de Waard said in conversation with the club. Last Friday, Van Gaal was a one-time trainer of Telstar. A day before the game, he led a training session and on Friday evening he was on the line during the game against Jong AZ. The then leader of the Kitchen Champion Division was defeated 1-0. The national coach of the Dutch promised to raise money for Spieren voor Spieren, the foundation for which he is an ambassador.
