Under the watchful eye of friends, relatives, teammates and representatives of Barcelona, 30-year-old Victoria Losada announced her retirement from the women’s team of Barcelona on Friday morning. Lieke Martens’ teammate, who was associated with the club for no less than sixteen years, was unable to hold back her tears. Losada broke down in tears and even had to watch some of her teammates in the room not keep it dry. The midfielder won everything there was to win with Barcelona, including the Champions League at the expense of Chelsea last season.
Losada’s specially scheduled press conference had to be interrupted several times on Friday because of the tears. “I am here to announce that I have played my last season with Barcelona,” Losada began her farewell speech. “Sixteen years ago I entered the youth complex as a 14-year-old girl. Everything I have experienced with the club in the years since has made me the happiest person on earth. The time has come to look further and finish this period You have to know when the end is there. I want to go to the club every day and enjoy the game.”

Losada acknowledged at the press conference that she has had an exceptional year with Barcelona. The Spanish top club won the league title, the cup and the Champions League treble, in which the Spanish midfielder played an important part as captain. “This was the hardest decision of my life. I’ve had incredible moments,” Losada continues. “Winning the Champions League was the icing on the cake. I am incredibly proud of the team and this makes it a lot easier for me to leave. I couldn’t have wished for a better ending.”
According to various English and Spanish media, Losada is associated with a move to Manchester City, but the protagonist did not want to change that on Friday. “I have several options, but I won’t go into names. I want to enjoy my farewell first. I don’t want the rumors about a transfer to affect this day.” Losada made her professional debut with Barcelona in 2006. She then spent a year on loan with Espanyol and the American New York Flash, before signing with Arsenal in 2015. A year later she returned to her childhood sweetheart Barcelona.
