FC Volendam lost the emergency arbitration case filed against Team Jonk on Wednesday evening. The Eredivisie club must therefore continue to pay the salaries of Wim Jonk and ex-head coach Mathias Kohler until mid-2026. That is a huge loss for Volendam, which is in financial problems.

On December 1, Team Jonk issued a statement stating that Jonk (technical manager), Jasper van Leeuwen (technical director) and Ruben Jongkind (head of youth training) would leave Volendam immediately.

The club concluded that Team Jonk itself resigned. According to Volendam, there was a breach of contract by Jonk and Kohler and the pair no longer had to be paid. The KNVB arbitration committee drew a line on that on Wednesday.

“The statement was mainly intended for the public. The idea has always been to finish the season in consultation,” says Team Jonk. “And to make good agreements about this.”

Jonk and Kohler are entitled to their wages until the end of the employment contract. Amounts were not mentioned. According to ESPN this concerns an amount of tons of euros in wages.

Volendam itself quoted the figure of one and a half million euros in recent days, but that seems exaggerated. That amount may have been made public to suggest that the club would go bankrupt because of Team Jonk, Joost Quant, Team Jonk's lawyer, previously said. The Telegraph.

Jonk himself also spoke. “I thought of Johan Cruijff this morning: 'If you don't have to lie, you can speak from your heart.' I was angry after Jaap Veerman's press conference and wanted it to end in a professional manner. That didn't happen. I am portrayed in the village as a money-hungry bogeyman while I was one of the worst paid trainers in the First Division for years. used to be.”
