Mees Hoedemakers does not go with SC Cambuur to the Kitchen Champion Division. The 25-year-old midfielder will almost certainly transfer to NEC after this season, reports Football International. Hoedemakers is transfer-free from July and must accommodate the approaching departure of Jordy Bruijn and Andri Baldursson in Nijmegen. With his three goals, he is the club’s top scorer in Cambuur.

For Cambuur and Hoedemakers, the curtain finally fell in the Eredivisie on Saturday. With three rounds to go, number sixteen FC Emmen can no longer be overtaken by the last team. For example, Cambuur descends directly to the Kitchen Champion Division, two years after the last promotion. Then Hoedemakers was under contract for just one year at the Cambuur Stadium.

Three years later, it’s time for a step up. Hoedemakers must become the first acquisition in what promises to be a busy transfer summer for NEC. Bruijn runs out of his contract, while mercenary Baldursson returns to Bologna. This leaves only Lasse Schöne, Dirk Proper and Oussama Tannane as ‘real’ options in midfield. Talents Kas de Wit, Mathias De Wolf and Nils Rossen all three came into action for the team from Nijmegen for less than a minute.

Partly due to the relegation, Cambuur is facing a real exodus. In addition to Hoedemakers, Robbin Ruiter, Calvin Mac-Intosch, Maxim Gullit, Sai van Wermeskerken, Doke Schmidt, Jamie Jacobs, Ben Rienstra, Robin Maulun, Mitchel Paulissen, Navarone Foor, David Sambissa and Björn Johnsen are also out of their contract in Leeuwarden. João Vírginia, Felix Mambimbi, Remco Balk and Mimoun Mahi have been hired and will return to their club in principle. Trainer Sjors Ultee has already said that he will go with Cambuur to the Kitchen Champion Division.
