Nicolás Tagliafico has not had his best six months in the shirt of Ajax. The Argentinian wing defender of the team from Amsterdam says that the consequences of the corona crisis were felt by him. “I had never had such a long break as a football player,” Tagliafico said in an interview with Faithful about the period that football came to a standstill in the Netherlands between March and August.

Tagliafico indicates that he could do almost nothing at home, except for ‘some fitness’. “When we had to start over, my rhythm turned out to be gone. That made it difficult. Especially because we had to play a new match every three or four days. I had several minor injuries that prevented me from delivering what I wanted. I was never really on one hundred percent, ”says the 28-year-old defender. Tagliafico notices that the standard for his playing has become high due to the performances in recent years.

“I scored a lot – something I didn’t expect – and also managed to avoid a lot of goals. We had a lesser period with the team, of which my lesser form and performance are also a result of. The only thing you can do is keep working hard, ”says Tagliafico. Due to the corona measures, he has not been able to see his family for a year. When he was in Argentina for international matches, he was not allowed to leave the bubble or visit his family. “That was very tough. Especially when you travel so long and are so close to them. ”

“Fortunately, I am not a person who will quickly give up. I always look ahead. To the goals I want to achieve in life ”, Tagliafico continues. He recently signed a new contract with Ajax that runs until 2023, but that does not rule out a transfer. “I am open to things to come. If there is an offer that is both sporty and economical, I will think about it. For now I am concentrating on the goals I have with Ajax: the premier division, the cup and the Europa League. ”
