Soccer’s world governing body, Fifa, says there is no reason for Swiss authorities to take criminal action against its president, Gianni Infantino.
The Swiss authorities have earlier confirmed that they have filed a case against Infantino after he allegedly met in secret with Switzerland’s attorney general, Michael Lauber. Lauber and Infantino denied that they did anything wrong.

“There is no reason to file a criminal case as there was no mention of any criminal activity,” Fifa said in a statement.

The governing body added that the meetings were not secret and took place in public places such as restaurants and hotels.

“Fifa strongly denies that it has any irregular influence over the Swiss federal prosecutor.”

Lauber’s office is investigating allegations of corruption at Fifa and therefore his meetings with Infantino have been questioned.

Fifa added that the special prosecutor, Stefan Keller, who filed the case against Infantino, could not prove any legal grounds for it.
