Sven Botman graces the front page of La Gazzetta dello Sport. According to the pink sports newspaper, the defender of Lille OSC is in the interest of AC Milan, which would have made a proposal for a rental period with an option to buy in the summer. Botman, if fit, is a regular base player at Lille and his club therefore does not see a switch.

Milan is looking for a new defender due to Simon Kjaer’s serious knee injury. The Dane dropped out against Genoa (0-3 win) at the beginning of this month and later underwent keyhole surgery, which showed that the damage to his cruciate ligament will keep him sidelined for about six months. Botman himself was injured in his groin from mid-October to the end of November this season, but has since recovered and had a starting place in Lille’s last two league games.

At the moment, Alessio Romagnoli and Fikayo Tomori are at the heart of Milan’s defence. By targeting the ‘desire to create internal competition and be able to give Romagnoli or Tomori peace of mind’ i Rossoneric the sights on Botman. The Dutchman has a contract until mid-2025 and is valued by his club at thirty million euros, states La Gazzetta dello Sport. Milan has recently signed attacker Rafael Leão and goalkeeper Mike Maignan from Lille and has a good relationship with the reigning champions of France.

Botman has long been associated with Milan, which has been eliminated from the Champions League and is fully focused on the battle for the league title. Earlier this month wrote The Athletic still that 47 million euros is needed to bring in the former stopper of Jong Ajax, but now a lower amount is doing the rounds. Last week, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Botman is also at the top of the wish list at Newcastle United. The wealthy Premier League club wants to strengthen itself with ‘one or two centre-backs’.
