Georginio Wijnaldum may leave Paris Saint-Germain behind next month. The midfielder is only working on his first season in Paris, but according to Sky Sports open to a return to the Premier League. In addition, PSG is willing to listen to offers to take over Wijnaldum on a rental basis, it sounds. Arsenal are described as ‘an option’, although it is not clear whether there is any concrete interest.

Wijnaldum was on the field for 90 minutes against Club Brugge (4-1 win) in the Champions League on Tuesday. On Saturday, he gave PSG a point in Ligue 1 with a goal in stoppage time against RC Lens (1-1). Wijnaldum had a starting spot in three of the six Champions League matches; in Ligue 1 he started seven times and was allowed to fill in just as often. At the beginning of last month, Wijnaldum acknowledged at a press conference that he has adjustment problems.

Wijnaldum has to fight for his place, while he was an undisputed base customer in Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool. “The playing style is different,” he said when asked about the difference between the two teams. “Our squad at Liverpool had already been formed five years ago and had its own identity. I played mainly in a defensive role, but here there are frequent changes of position. It is our first season together. I still have to adapt and get used to it. ” Wijnaldum notes that there is still much to be gained when it comes to coordination with his teammates. “The most important thing is to get to know my teammates. I’ve never played with them before.”

“We use the training sessions to get to know each other,” Wijnaldum said early last month in the run-up to the Champions League game against RB Leipzig (2-2), in which he scored twice. “It’s a new start for me, everything is new. The coach wants to give us a free role in matches and wants us to switch positions. I have to get used to that. I come from a team with many habits. I have to learn how my teammates play and how they think.” The 31-year-old midfielder came over from Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer. He signed a contract until mid-2024 at the Parc des Princes.
