Supporters of RKC Waalwijk have to be patient when it comes to visiting away games. The players from Brabant will play the away game at NEC on Saturday evening, but the Goffert Stadium does not yet allow it to receive away supporters. Part of the Goffert Stadium’s guest section collapsed in October when the construction was not intended for cheering Vitesse supporters.

During the corona press conference on Tuesday evening, it was announced that the stadiums in the Netherlands can be fully filled again from Friday. It remains mandatory for supporters to submit a vaccination certificate, recovery certificate or negative corona test when visiting a match. However, for supporters of RKC Waalwijk, visiting an away match is still a long time coming, as the guest section of the Goffert Stadium has not yet recovered from the incident in October.

During the Gelderse derby, part of the stands collapsed in October. No one was seriously injured in the incident; a container under the grandstand prevented the grandstand from collapsing further. Due to a design error and several cracks, the people of Nijmegen played out the calendar year in an empty stadium. “It is a downer that RKC Waalwijk received the message yesterday (Tuesday, ed.) that it will have to face NEC next Saturday, February 19 in the Goffert Stadium against NEC,” RKC writes on the website.

“The local triangle in Nijmegen has decided that the branch of the Goffert Stadium has not yet been declared safe enough to allow public access to it again. In addition, NEC has not been able to offer a safe alternative. RKC Waalwijk regrets that With the full return of supporters to the stadiums, no crowds will be possible for this match, but at the same time supports the decision that safety comes first.”
