Ajax has extended Dave Vos’ contract for two seasons. The club announces that his contract is expiring until mid-2025. The 40-year-old coach was the successor to John Heitinga at Jong Ajax last season, who made the move to the first after the dismissal of Alfred Schreuder.

Vos was already working at the club before he started working for the team of the team from Amsterdam. For example, he trained the Under 17 and Under 18, and he was assistant coach of Mitchell van der Gaag at Jong Ajax. In November 2021, Vos decided to make the switch to Scotland, where he was Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s assistant coach until November 2022. Due to the disappointing results in the Premiership and the Champions League, Van Bronckhorst and his staff had to leave the field.

After Schreuder’s dismissal at the end of January 2023, Heitinga moved on as interim trainer and a vacancy became available at Jong Ajax. In mid-February, the inhabitants of the capital announced that Vos would replace Heitinga. “I am a real Ajax player and owe a lot to the club,” he said at the time via the official channels. “That is why I like to give something back now that Ajax is calling on me again.” Ajax also announced on Tuesday that Yuri Rose moves on from the Under 17 and the new assistant becomes Vos. Erik Heijblok will also stay longer in Amsterdam, working as a goalkeeper coach.

Vos knew the group of players of Jong Ajax well because of his earlier years at De Toekomst. In the remainder of the second half of the season, he was at the helm of the Kitchen Champion Division for fourteen games. The team won seven times, while also losing seven matches. Technical manager Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is delighted with the contract extension. “During the last six months, Dave has shown that he is the right man for Jong Ajax. He was appointed during the second half of the season and, together with his staff, ensured that the players played football and developed in a recognizable way.”
