Internazionale and Juventus balanced each other in the Serie A on Sunday evening. For a long time it looked like i Nerazzurri a 1-0 lead over the line, but in the penultimate minute of regular time Juventus came alongside: 1-1. A penalty kick used by Paulo Dybala, caused by Denzel Dumfries, prevented Inter from taking the win.
Trainer Massimiliano Allegri had, just like in the duel with AS Roma (1-0) in the previous round, not reserved a base place for Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutchman again had to tolerate Giorgio Chiellini in the pecking order. On the other side, Stefan de Vrij was central in the back as usual, while Dumfries had to give up his starting spot to Matteo Darmian. The right wing defender came in for Ivan Perisic more than fifteen minutes before the end.

The intensity was high on both sides and from the first whistle, the spectators present were spoiled with attractive football. The first big chance was scored by lvaro Morata, whose header was parried by goalkeeper Samir Handanovic. The attempt from the rebound did not land between the posts. The score opened in seventeenth minute of play. Hakan Çalhanoglu had a devastating shot from the second line, but the ball exploded on the crossbar. However, Dzeko reacted very quickly and was able to score the 1-0.
Four minutes later, Juan Cuadrado had a good chance to equalize after Inter’s careless loss of possession. The Colombian made room for the shot and made a nice effort, but his effort went just wide. In the remainder of the second act, the entertainment value fell away somewhat and there were no great opportunities. On the stroke of half-time, Dzeko appealed for a penalty after he headed a ball on Chiellini’s arm. However, his request was not honored by referee Maurizio Mariani and the VAR on duty.
In the second company Juventus was more emphatically present and they went looking for the equalizer. However, the attacking spirit did not lead to great, well-played opportunities. Simone Inzaghi made a mostly defensive substitution after 72 minutes in an attempt to hold on to the 1-0 lead as Dumfries took the field at the expense of Perisic. That decision would ultimately cost Inter dear. The Dutchman made an apparently minor foul in his own sixteen, after which Mariani pointed to the spot. Paulo Dybala shot in impeccably hard: 1-1.
