Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink signed a contract on Thursday that commits him to FC Twente until mid-2027, the club reports through official channels. The eighteen-year-old striker is therefore following in the footsteps of father Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

“The fact that I can sign my contract today is fantastic, I am very proud of it,” says the Oldenzaler. “On the day I turned ten, I received the message that I had been selected for the youth academy of FC Twente. Eight years later it is a special day again.”

“From my first season I have had a good time in the Academy with good trainers,” he continues. “I was in Mats Rots' team for years and hopefully we will soon be in the first team together. In recent years, football in the youth academy has become more and more serious and I noticed that I could take a step higher.”

“That only motivated me even more to work even harder for it. I have learned a crazy amount this season. During the winter break I was allowed to go to training camp with the first selection and I was also able to play minutes in a few practice matches.”

“Then you can taste it and those are experiences and moments that you will take with you for later,” says Vennegoor of Hesselink, who is playing his matches in Under 18 this year and has scored seventeen times in eighteen matches.

“I hope to be able to show myself in the near future and when the time is right to make the step to the first selection. And then you hope to play in De Grolsch Veste and score, that would be a dream,” concludes Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Technical director Arnold Bruggink is also very happy to be able to present Vennegoor of Hesselink. “Lucas is a real striker, who can finish well and is strong in the air. For me personally it is also special to see Lucas take this step. I have known him since he was a little boy and he brought this on himself.”
